Nick Ball defends his WBA featherweight title against TJ Doheny on Saturday, with emotions set to run high at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena. Ball makes the second defence of the title he won in a 2024 thriller against Raymond Ford in Riyadh.
The 28-year-old’s relentlessness in the ring normally contrasts with a calm demeanour on the other side of the ropes, but veteran Irish southpaw Doheny has been on the wind-up all week and the pair clashed angrily at Friday’s weigh-in.

This is a first outing for the 38-year-old since his unsuccessful challenge for Naoya Inoue’s undisputed super bantamweight crown last September . Doheny hit out at “numpties” who are writing off his prospects against Ball at the higher weight class.

The champion is not one of those.
“He’s got something definitely. He’s coming to try to take the belt, take something,” Ball said. “I’ve worked hard for it, and I’m not going to let him. That is his challenge. I have to be ready for war and on my game.”
