It’s the first-ever playoff meeting between the two franchises. Minnesota advanced by knocking out the Lakers in five games, while Golden State went the distance against Houston, needing a full seven to reach Round 2.
Golden State leaned heavily on their stars to get through Round 1.
Stephen Curry averaged 29.4 points per game and logged over 40 minutes in Game 7. Jimmy Butler added 25.1 points per game while shooting 55 percent from the field. Draymond Green picked up four technicals and two flagrant fouls in the series but also anchored a defense that forced a league-best 17.3 turnovers per game.

That kind of intensity is exactly what Minnesota is preparing to match. The Wolves know they’ll be tested on both ends and are focused on carrying over the poise that helped them close out the Lakers. Minnesota outscored Los Angeles in all five fourth quarters and posted a plus-40.0 net rating in those stretches.
“We’re going to need to be even sharper this series,” Finch said after Monday’s practice. “Golden State plays with movement, spacing and speed that can really test your coverage every possession.”
Veteran guard Mike Conley echoed that message, pointing to how much off-ball action the Wolves will need to navigate. “You have to be locked in every second,” Conley said. “It’s not just Steph. They’ve got guys flying off screens, rolling, spacing. We’ve got to communicate and be solid.”
Minnesota dropped three of four to Golden State in the regular season, though none of those games featured Jimmy Butler, who joined the Warriors via trade after the season series was complete. Finch noted that there are lessons to take from those matchups but emphasized how different this series will feel.
“We’re a different team than we were in January,” Finch said. “And so are they. It’s going to come down to who can dictate the style, who can play their game.”
With Anthony Edwards averaging 31.0 points per game in Round 1 and Julius Randle, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert each stepping up in key moments, the Wolves enter this series with momentum and depth. Conley believes that the Wolves are confident but grounded.
“We’re not trying to skip steps. We’ve got respect for who they are, what they’ve done,” Conley said. “But we like our group. We’re going to be ready.”
