All eyes will be on Paris, France, as the second grand slam of the 2025 tennis season, the French Open returns with its 129th edition beginning Sunday, May 25, and culminating on Sunday, June 8 with the men’s singles final.
Carlos Alcaraz is the men’s defending champion heading into this year’s event. He comes into this edition of the Roland Garros on the back of excellent performances in this year’s clay swing, having won the Monte Carlo Open and Italian Open.

However, it will be a far from easy task for the young Spaniard to defend his title with the likes of Zverev, World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, and Novak Djokovic vying for the trophy.
In the women’s field, ‘queen of the clay’ Iga Swiatek will look to make history by becoming the first woman in more than a century to win the French Open on four consecutive occasions, matching Suzanne Lenglen’s record.
The 23-year-old will however have a challenger in World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka who has been impressive in the WTA tour this year, having won three titles. Additionally, the likes of Coco Gauff, Jasmine Paolini, and Zheng Qinwen are also top contenders for the title.

It’s time for the second grand slam of the year! The 2025 French Open kicks off at Roland-Garros this Sunday, May 25. The defending champions headed into this year’s tennis tournament are Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek — though notably neither player occupies the top-seeded spot in their respective singles tournaments. Jannik Sinner is the No. 1 seed in the men’s tournament, Aryna Sabalenka is the No. 1 seed in the women’s. American tennis star Coco Gauff is the No. 2 seed on the women’s side. In the U.S., coverage of this year’s tournament will air on TNT and truTV, and every match will air on HBO Max.
How to watch the French Open in the US
Instead of NBC and Peacock, US French Open coverage will air across TNT and truTV this year. American cord-cutters have a few different options to explore when it comes to tuning in without cable. You can live stream the channels through a live TV streaming service like Sling TV or DirecTV, or try out Max. Select coverage will also be available through the Tennis Channel, but the bulk of the action will be on Warner Bros. properties.
TNT is available through both of Sling TV’s base plans, Sling Orange and Blue, which carry anywhere from 35-40+ channels. Sling Orange also carries ESPN, while Sling Blue offers local channels in select regions. Subscriptions start at $46/month, but new users can get 50% off their first month. DirecTV also carries TNT and about 25 other key sports channels in its MySports pack. The package also includes automatic access to ESPN Plus. New users can try out the service for free for five days.
